Sightseeing in Rome

<![CDATA[

Christmas day in Rome has got to be special and it was. We started our day with a walking tour which commenced at the Spanish Steps. They were beautifully decorated and at the top afford a wonderful view out over Rome. At the bottom of the stairs is the boat fountain by Bernini and the start of the most exclusive shopping street in Rome, the Via Condotti.

From here we passed the Colombo dedicated to the immaculate conception on our way to the Trevi Fountain. When in Rome this visit is a must and they say when you throw your two coins in that one coin will fulfill a wish and the other will ensure you return to Rome one day. I have never seen it with such few people which was fantastic.

Next stop on our walking tour was Piazza Navona via the Pantheon. Piazza Navona is famous for the Four Rivers Fountain by Bernini which has just finished a three year restoration and is looking fantastic. Time in Rome’s Christmas markets here around Piazza Navona before walking across the Tiber river for a great view of St Peter’s on our way to see the Pope.

For readers of Angels & Demons by Dan Brown fans it is a treat to walk past Castle St Angelo on the way. If you haven’t read this novel put it on your list for an entertaining holiday read.

When in Rome on Christmas day it would be a shame to miss the blessing by the Pope, regardless of your religious beliefs. The Pope is one of the worlds most powerful and influential people and the atmosphere in the square is quite electric.

Back to the coach for a drive around Rome on our way past Circus Maximus of Ben Hur fame, on our way to the Colosseum. Built in the first century AD it is remarkably preserved and stands at the edge of the Forums of Rome. Time to marvel at this historic monument before making our way past the Baths of Caracalla on our way to St Pauls Outside the Walls. This is one of the most spiritual places you will ever visit and always takes my breath away.

An afternoon siesta at the hotel and we are ready for Christmas Dinner and what a night it was with some great entertainment, great food and a little audience participation. This evening always makes for some great photos. We swapped presents and enjoyed everyones company.

With a drive around Rome to see the Illuminations and a stop in St Peters Sq on our way to the hotel is a wonderful Christmas day in Rome. For more information about traveling; please have a look at http://www.affordable-cruises-tours.com.

Trafalgar Tours London Half Day Sightseeing Tour 2009

<![CDATA[
<![CDATA[

Most Trafalgar Tours starting in London include a half day included sightseeing tour known as “Regal London”. This tour starts at your London hotel at approximately 8 am on the first day after your arrival from USA or Canada.

Upon arrival at your hotel on the first day of the tour after being transferred from the airport you will meet a Trafalgar Tours representative if you have arrived during their rostered hours for that day. If you arrive outside these hours there will be either and or, a letter of arrival at reception or a notice board which will specify a time of departure for the sightseeing tour the next morning. For your own benefit and that of others on the tour I advise you be in reception 5 to 10 minutes before the scheduled departure.

The tour will be conducted by a registered London “Blue Badge” guide. Blue Badge guides are highly trained professionals and have a remarkable knowledge of London. Local guides can bring a city to life and I would recommend a tip of one pound per person at the end of the tour if they have fulfilled your expectations.

The Regal London tour will see many of London’s highlights largely in the West End of the city, including such highlights as Knights Bridge, Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus. A stop will be made at Westminster Abbey with time to admire not only the Abbey but also The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.

The highlight of the morning will be a stop at Buckingham Palace where you will witness the pageantry of the Changing of the Guard. One thing to keep in mind is that if there is rain then the Changing of the Guard does not operate. In this event Trafalgar will make a visit to the Horse guards Parade at White Hall as a substitute.

At the end of the Regal London half day sightseeing tour there will be two choices of drop off.

1. Trafalgar Tours London Reception Center at approximately 11.45 am.

2. Harrods. A short time after that.

For many people with limited time I would suggest looking at further extending your sightseeing with Trafalgar by way of one of their extensions which I will list below.

1. City and Tower Tour. Daily.

2. Royal Windsor. Monday and Saturday.

3. Hampton Court Palace and gardens. Monday and Saturday.

4. Royal Palaces. Monday and Saturday.

5. Various Theater packages. Operated daily.

If you have more time in London then you might consider a full day sightseeing extension which I will again list below.

1. Salisbury cathedral, Stonehenge and Georgian bath. Daily.

<![CDATA[
<![CDATA[

2. Leeds Castle, Canterbury cathedral and White Cliffs of Dover. Tue, Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat.

3. Oxford, Shakespeare’s Stratford & the Enchanting Cotswolds. Tue and Sat.

4. Jack the Rippers Sinister London. Fri, Sat, Sun.

5. Unescorted Day Trip to Paris by Eurostar. Daily.

The last thing you want with limited time is for the tour extension you would like to do to be fully booked so please talk to us at the time of booking and we can explain these options and book any for you in advance so you will not be disappointed on the day. Sightseeing in London and Manchester and Which Accommodation to Choose

Many people considering taking a holiday or a short break instinctively think of somewhere abroad with a hot climate. European cities such as Paris or Brussels are popular destinations as flights are relatively cheap these days and are regular and rapid. People tend to forget there are plenty of choices in the UK and the advantage is that you do not have to waste time waiting for a flight, exchange money or try to understand another language. UK cities can provide anything a European one can, without the stress. With many beautiful cities in the UK, you can be sure to find enough hotels everywhere like London hotels or Manchester Accommodation.

More and more people are taking advantage of flexible working hours and using this time to get away on a short break or long weekend to interesting city destinations. No longer restricted to the annual two week holiday in the sun people are discovering the delights of British cities. Cities like London and Manchester are now a challenge to Milan and Barcelona in terms of fashionable accommodation, shopping areas, cultural activities, museum, chic bars and clubbing!

City breaks can be exciting, fun and stimulating. Where else will you find numerous activities and events, shopping, architecture, dining, attractions and entertainment all in one place? To book a city break is simple these days, domestic flights, car hire, planning a route and booking a London hotel or Manchester accommodation you can accomplish online and you can even check out what to do in the city, all before you even set foot out of the house.

In most cities, it is possible to book accommodation in the city centre and nearby shopping areas, making it easy and convenient to tour the city on foot. International cuisines are generally on offer, giving you more choice when selecting your dining preference.

Manchester is responsible for some of the top musical artists of our time and has one of the UK’s biggest venues in its centre where there is often a chart-topping group or artist performing. For an alternative music venue, the Bridgewater Hall has many organized musicians and local bands around the city. If you are planning on waking those shopping grounds or visiting one of the famous concerts make sure you will book your hotel in Manchester on time. Manchester was rejuvenated extensively over the last 10 years and the choice of Manchester accommodation is beyond. The latest area to be developed is Exchange Square where many people take the time to sit and eat their lunch or at a traditional northern pub, that Manchester is famous for.

London is a year-round tourist attraction and a great shopping city. From the up market, Harrods to the multinational style of Portobello Road street market the whole city is one huge shopping centre. The West End, Oxford Street, Bond Street and Regents Street are all familiar names and have an appeal and style that still attracts tourists and locals alike. The changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace and the horse guards’ parade are both popular events with tourists. Tower Bridge, Westminster Abbey, London Zoo and the London Dungeon are just some of the exciting things to see and do here. Enjoy the dazzling views from the London Eye, discover the Tate Modern or absorb the historical atmosphere of St Paul’s Cathedral. Madame Tussauds is a great place to check out and if you have time, visit Hampstead Health and Kew Garden. A short break in London and staying in one of its typical London hotels is a great way to spend you well-earned holiday but I promise you that there is never enough time to see all the sights, so you can always come back for more!

Whether it is a shopping trip to take advantage of the sales, a family break with the family, a history and cultural tour or a chance to visit the theatres and museums, the cities of Manchester and London have it all.

Sightseeing in London

London is famous for its great double-decker buses just as tourists associate Prague with its elegant horse-drawn carriages and Venice with its characteristic gondolas. Tourists should spend a lot of time in sightseeing in London and should not miss the wonderful tourist spots in this English city. If you opt for luxury car hire, then your trip in the city can really be a rewarding experience. However, the most popular manner of touring in the city is sitting on top of the open-top bus and soaking in the beauty of London.

Most of the touring services feature a hop-off and hop-on facility that allows visitors to get down in the middle of the tour and join later after visiting the sights of their choice. Tourists have other alternatives like guided walks of London or leisurely cruises along the Thames River.
